50 Random Facts About Me

1.)    My favorite color is pink and my second favorite color is purple.

2.)    I was born in Texas, but moved to California in the third grade. I consider myself to be a SoCal girl. But a lot of my extended family lives in Texas, and so Texas will always have a special place in my heart.

3.)    I have never smoked. I do occasionally drink though. (I’m 22, so don’t worry it’s legal.)

4.)    I am a Whovian, aka a fan of Doctor Who. I am also a Gladiator, aka a fan of Scandal.

5.)    I am addicted to YouTube videos, specifically beauty and late night talk shows.

6.)    I am still a virgin. (I’m not waiting until marriage. I’m just waiting for the right person.)

7.)    I am a Communications major at Cal State Fullerton.

8.)    I don’t cook, but I want to learn.

9.)    I am a dog person. I grew up around golden retrievers and so I will always be a little bit biased. Although, I do love all dogs.

10.) When I graduate from college and have more money, I hope to expand my makeup collection and get a cool Old Hollywood style vanity with lights surrounding the frame of the mirror. And one day if I can afford it, I’d love to have a replica of the bathtub sofa from Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

11.) I am a frugal shopaholic. (I love buying things but I am cheap af. Seems like an oxymoron, I know.)

12.) I love hockey, but I don’t know the rules. I dedicate a lot of time to watching hockey and listening to hockey podcasts. But I refuse to learn the rules because I think it’s funny that I can tell you about everything that’s going on in the NHL, yet I don’t know the rules. (Maybe one day when I stop thinking it’s funny, I’ll learn them.)

13.) I have ADHD, anxiety, and depression. (You’ll find out more about this later.)

18.) I’m really good at memorizing lyrics, but I don’t listen to a lot of new music. I like to listen to songs whose lyrics I already know, so I can sing along in my head and pretend I’m on Broadway. (I don’t have a great singing voice, so that’s closest I’m ever going to get to Broadway.)

19.) I love Old Hollywood. It was so glamorous. (If I ever have blessed with a daughter, I would love for her nursery to have an Old Hollywood theme.)

20.) I love Marilyn Monroe. (I plan to do a future post in which I explain all of the reasons why I love her.)

21.) I love the British Royal Family, specifically Kate Middleton.

22.) I was born in the Woodlands, Texas in December of 1993. The Woodlands is near Houston and I was born around the time that the Houston Rockets won the championship. Because of this, I was given the nickname Alley-oop

23.) I am of mostly Irish and Scottish descent, with some English and German mixed in as well.

24.) When I was younger, I would sometimes wish that I could hold the want and say “You’re watching Disney Channel”.

25.) You know the obviously fake smile that kids will sometimes make when they’re having their picture taken? Well, that was the smile that I used to make. So one day I printed out a picture of Britney Spears and Jamie Lynn Spears (because I thought that they had the most beautiful smiles), and I taped the picture to my mirror. I would stand in front of my mirror and practice smiling. (It was weird, but it worked.)

26.) My first celebrity crush was in kindergarten and it was on Lance Bass. I even had an NSYNC backpack and CD case.

27.) I love the show Gilmore Girls. In high school, I convinced my parents to buy me the DVD box set with all 8 seasons on it. And I watched all the episodes in order. I even wanted to name my daughter Loreleai and call her Rory as a nickname.

28.) Out of the six schools that I’ve attended, two of them were named after astronauts (Sally K Ride Elementary School and Robert H Goddard Middle School). I left Sally K Ride in the second grade, but I still remember some of the lyrics from our school song. “At Sally K Ride, our elementary school. We will be loyal and true to the red, white, and blue. We will always take a challenge and always do our best. We (something, something, lyrics I forgot) that challenge like (more lyrics I forgot) anything we choose. At Sally K Ride, we’d rather win than lose. Like the astronauts in space, we are ready for the race. At Sally K Ride, our elementary school.”

Also the preschool that I attended was called Paddington British School, despite being located in Texas. Our school uniforms even had the British flag on them.

29.) I was born with exotropia. (I had surgery for it when I was 2 ½. However, every once in a blue moon my right eye will wander off for a second or two.)

30.) I was fortunate enough that, despite not being rich, my parents were able to send me to an all-girls Catholic high school. And it was an amazing experience, I made some of the best friends that a girl could ever ask for.

31.) In 1992, my aunt won the lottery.

32.) I like the color pink so much that one day I want to have a pink car.

34.) When I was little, my uncle told me that it was illegal to wear a certain color of nail polish on your fingers and then a different color of nail polish on your toes. I didn’t realize that he was kidding. I remember looking at people’s nail polish and thinking ‘Ooh. That person’s breaking the law’.

35.) I was a very creative child. Because of this, I was also a child who was very nervous about riding the school bus for the first time. This is because I had convinced myself that there was a big face on the back wall of the school bus that ate children. (Keep in mind, no one told me this. I came up with this theory myself, and convinced myself that it was true. Yep, pretty silly.)

36.) When I was younger and still living in Texas, I used to like to watch the Butt Ugly Martians. (Looking back I’m not sure why. No offense to fans of the Butt Ugly Martians.)

37.) My mom wanted to name me Tiffany, but my dad wanted to name me Allison. And ultimately, my parents decided to go with Allison.

38.) My mom wanted to name my little brother Alexander, so it would be ‘big Al, little Al’. However my dad didn’t like that idea, so my parents decided to name him Matthew instead.

39.) When I was younger, I was absolutely obsessed with Barney. I owned so many things that were Barney themed, it was ridiculous. And as a two year old, I used to jump up and down whenever Barney was on TV and shout “Dee Dee”. (Clearly I was not smart enough to figure out that his name was Barney.) To this day, I still have my Barney doll. It’s very sentimental to me.

40.) I was a really big Jonas Brothers fan all throughout high school, and I was convinced that I was going to marry Nick Jonas. (Well, not convinced. But really, really hopeful.)

41.) When I was in kindergarten, my teacher told me that a magical fairy came to the letter ‘I’ and said “Whenever you are alone you shall be capital”. (So just in case anyone reading this blog is wondering why the letter ‘I’ is capital, that’s why.)

42.) Olympic decathalon winner, Bryan Clay, is members of the same club as my family. And his kids are even on the same swim team as my brother. But whenever I see him, I’m too scared to approach him. Maybe one day.

43.) Girls next door

44.) My grandfather was a United States lieutenant during WWII and my grandmother was one of the women working in Oak Ridge, Tennessee for the Manhattan Project. (The women of Oak Ridge, Tennessee were unaware that they were helping build the atomic bomb). My grandmother and grandfather met after the war, fell in love, and got married. I’ve been told that my grandfather used to call me “the sweetest thing that ever was”. He died when I was two years old. I wish that I had been lucky enough to know him.

45.) I have a great relationship with my dad. I am a total daddy’s little girl. My dad’s amazing.

46.) When I was younger, I wrote a poem that placed in the LA County Fair. “Little tree, little tree. What do you see? Do you see a bumble bee? Or do you see my knee? Little tree, little tree. What do you see?” (Looking back, I’m not sure why it got an award. It wasn’t that great of a poem. I suppose it was cute.)

47.)  love listening to morning radio shows. My favorite morning radio shows include the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show, Johnjay & Rich, Mojo In the Morning, and the Kane Show.

48.) I didn’t have a smartphone until January of this year. Before then, I had a dumb phone that couldn’t even take pictures.

49.) Writing this blog has been a dream of mine for a while. And I’m glad that I finally decided to take the leap despite my anxiety about putting myself out there for the world to see. (I didn’t have any reason in particular to be anxious, I’m just kind of an anxious person. However now that I’m actually writing the blog, I feel really happy. So I know that I made the right decision. :D)

50.) I plan to be very honest in this blog and make myself really vulnerable. Please don’t leave mean comments. I want this blog to be a happy place. I look forward to getting to know all of you who are ready my blog, and I hope that you all are looking forward to getting to know me.

2 Easy Steps To Find Your Skin Type

THE TISSUE TEST

The best way to determine what type of skin by doing something which I like to call ‘The Tissue Test’. The Tissue Test is very simple and consists of only two steps.

Step #1:
Take a tissue and dab your face with it, paying particular attention to the T-Zone. (It is important that if you have just washed your face, you wait at least an hour before doing this test.)

Step #2:
Once you have finished dabbing your face, look at the tissue. What you see on the tissue is the key to determining the type of skin that you have:

OILY SKIN: If you notice that your tissue looks greasy then you have oily skin. ‘

DRY SKIN: If you notice that your tissue has flakes of dead skin on it then you have dry skin.

NORMAL SKINIf you see neither oil or dead skin flakes, you have normal skin.

COMBINATION SKIN: If you notice both oil and dead skin flakes on the tissue then you have combination skin.

Did you take the test? What skin type are you?

Comment below and let me know your thoughts.

Until next time, Gorgeous. XOXO :D <3

5 Amazing Foundation Hacks

Hack #1: FINDING YOUR SHADE

When trying out a foundation, I like to buy three shades. It's usually pretty dang easy to know which foundations have the best chance of being the right fit for you. You can go home, look in the mirror (obviously, lol) and swipe all three shades of foundation across your jawline. The foundation that disappears into your skin tone is the correct shade for you, and the other two can be returned. That way no money is wasted. :)
Also, there's this really great website called findation.com. You tell the website what foundations you already own and the shade that was a match for you, and using that information they are able to come up with a list of foundations and the shade that you would be a match for. It's amazing! Totally takes the stress out of buying new drugstore foundations.

Hack #2: FOUNDATION=CONCEALER????

Did you know that if you're out of concealer, you can use your foundation instead? It's true! Dab a bit of concealer on the spot that you're trying to conceal, wait five minutes then blend. Trust me, it works.

Hack #3: STIPPLING

When applying liquid foundation, try using a stippling brush. Stippling brushes are cone shaped brushes and their bristles are usually black at the top (the part nearest to the handle) and white at the ends (the part that touches your face). Using your stippling brush, apply your foundation in light bouncing motions, almost like you are doting your face.

HACK #4: MAKING YOUR OWN TINTED MOISTURIZER

Mix a little bit of foundation in with your moisturizer. And viola! You have your own tinted moisturizer, free of charge.

HACK #5: SKIN TYPE DETERMINES FOUNDATION TYPE?

Your skin type can help determine what type of foundation might work best for you. Girls with dry skin should try a cream foundation. For my fellow oily-skinned gals (shoutout, lol), we should try using a powder foundation. And liquid foundation looks amazing on normal skin types.

Mascara 101

Before buying a mascara, it is important that you (a) Know what you want to accomplish & (b) Understand how to achieve it.

MASCARA FORMULAS

  • Lash Defining Mascara results in natural-looking eyelashes, which are defined from root to tip.

  • Lengthening Mascara gives eyelashes more length. (Great option for those with short, sparse lashes.)

  • Thickening / Volumizing Mascara helps you reach your goal of achieving fuller and thicker eyelashes

  • Curling Mascara helps enhance your eyelashes’ natural curl.

  • Non-Clumping Mascaras are formulated to avoid clumping.

  • Lash Growing Mascara helps to grow your eyelashes. 2-in-1 (if you will): Mascara-and-eyelashes growth serum, all in one convenient mascara tube

MASCARA WANDS

  • Comb brush: Adds length. Adds volume. Separates lashes.

  • Curved brush: Curls & lifts

  • Long brush: Meant to help lengthen eyelashes, not so meant to help volumize. Helps separate & define eyelashes

  • Small brush: Works best for small eyelashes. Does not clump

  • Straight brush: Easy to use. Wand can be held at different angles to fully coat the lashes.

Eyeshadow Shades For Your Eye Color

Before we get started, I want to establish two general rules of the eyeshadow world which I believe to be true and applicable to all eye color (Probably a run-on sentence. Who cares? lol As Johnjay from Johnjay and Rich would say, 'I am not grammar'.):

  1. Purple eyeshadows work for every eye color. Virtually every shade of purple eyeshadow will work for virtually any eye color. If you have eyeballs and you have purple eyeshadow, you cannot go wrong.

  2. Shimmery eyeshadow shades make your eyes stand out. This works in even the most extreme seems like it would not work scenarios, such as blue eyeshadow for blue eyes and green eyeshadow for green eyes.

(Also, shimmery eyeshadows just make me f***ing happy. Pink things and shimmery things make me happy. If only rule #1 applied to pink shimmer, the world would be a better place. I know what you're thinking. And yes, despite being 22 years old I am still very much still distracted by shiny objects. XD)

EYESHADOW FOR BLUE EYES

  • Terra-cotta eyeshadow
  • Bronze  eyeshadow
  • Pale Pink eyeshadow
  • Copper eyeshadow
  • Light blue silvery eyeshadow
  • Midnight blue eyeshadow
  • Metallic copper eyeshadow
  • Metallic gold eyeshadow
  • Violet eyeshadow
  • Lavender eyeshadow
  • Grayish lavendar eyeshadow
  • Chocolate brown eyeshadow
  • Camel eyeshadow
  • Cranberry eyeshadow
  • Champagne eyeshadow
  • Gray eyeshadow
  • Reddish-brown eyeshadow
  • Rust eyeshadow
  • Orange eyeshadow
  • Peach  eyeshadow
  • Coral eyeshadow
  • Grayish pink eyeshadow
If you want to create a smoky eye, opt for a neutrals (light pinks, golds, browns). The goal is to enhance your eye color not overpower it.

EYESHADOW FOR GREEN EYES

  • Tan eyeshadow base
  • Beige eyeshadow base
  • Violet eyeshadow
  • Plum eyeshadow
  • Bronze eyeshadow
  • Gold eyeshadow

  • Chocolate Brown eyeshadow
  • Gray eyeshadow
  • Charcoal eyeshadow
  • Hunter green eyeshadow
  • Olive green eyeshadow
  • Peach eyeshadow
  • Seipa eyeshadow
Also if you are lucky enough to be one of the 3% of people with the rarest eye color in the world... What do you mean my sucking up is too obvious? XD Seriously though, it is a very pretty eye color. Anyway... *clears throat to start over again* If you are lucky enough to have green eyes, maybe stay away from the black eyeliner.

EYESHADOW FOR HAZEL EYES

  • Gold eyeshadow
  • Bronze eyeshadow
  • Earthy brown eyeshadow shades
  • Green eyeshadow (i.e., army green)

EYESHADOW FOR BROWN EYES

  • Blue eyeshadow
  • Green eyeshadow
  • Brown eyeshadow
  • Silver eyeshadow
  • Orange eyeshadow
